The Bach that JK Built

About This Project

This bach was designed by Architect Chris Tate, built by Barrett Homes and featured on “The Bach that JK Built” on Choice TV in late 2020. Tile Depot products have been used throughout. Most modern homes include seamless indoor outdoor flow as a key design objective. New Zealanders love to relax and entertain outdoors and increasingly strive to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living. This project is one of our favorites, not just because of the tremendous kiwi in the foreground, but also because it is an excellent example of pretty seamless indoor-outdoor flow. JK's family love surfing and entertaining, the bach reflects that with practical easy care surfaces, amazing indoor outdoor flow and a super practical wet-room off the back deck which occupies the whole rear with of the house.

Kitchen + Scullery.

For the kitchen floor, kitchen splash back and scullery floor flowing outside to outdoor deck we have - Tracks Ash 600 x 600. This tile is now deleted but we have lots that look similar. The Cordoba series is a great substitute. For the scullery splash back walls and kitchen we have Memory Mood - a mix of patterned tiles, this tile is now deleted but a great example of creative uses with tiles.

Living, Dining + Bedrooms

For the living, dining and all bedrooms we have Neptune Max Natural Oak. The Neptune Max collection is a great choice if you want the look and feel of hardwood flooring but don’t want the maintenance. It has all the look and feel of hardwood flooring in a modern wide plank format. Neptune Max is an extremely popular range available in 4 designs with a natural woodgrain surface. The Max range is wider and longer than your traditional SPC planks. Neptune flooring also has an in-built antibacterial surface that gives greater protection against bacteria.

Bathroom + Ensuite

For the bathroom and ensuite we have Tracks Ash 600 x 600. This tile has now been deleted, we recommend checking out the Cordoba collection as an alternative. For example, Cordoba Grey. Cordoba Grey is a mid-grey tile with a lightly textured matt surface. Whilst it has a very uniform appearance, at closer inspection there are speckles and grains of various sizes and shades across the face of the tile. Check out our website for more details on this alternative option and others.

Outdoor Area

Indoor and outdoor flow.. The same or similar floor coverings have been used to such great effect, that when the stacking doors are pulled back, these two areas virtually become one. If you're inspired by this project, and particularly love that extension of the porcelain tiles from indoors to out, you can easily replicate it with many of the designs in our outdoor collection, as many of them also come with matching interior finishes. Check out our range of outdoor tiles on our website or in store!

WET ROOM

It's hard to imagine a more practical space for a sea side home than this wet room in JK and Fiorella's Waihi Bach. Just walk in from the sea in your wetsuit and togs and straight into a waterproof tiled space to rinse off and change. No water damage, sand gets swept up and it's a pretty divine looking space too. They have used Timberland Light Gris (450 x 900) for floors and walls. Please note this tile has now been discontinued however can be recreated with Casserto White. The Casserto series is a rectified porcelain with a distinct concrete formwork effect. Industrial, urban and warehouse cool, it's an awesome series for creating a slightly edgy effect in any situation. It can be used on both floors and walls and is available in three contemporary colours: Grey, White and Nero.
